You’ve heard about the perfect peeling waves, exotic wildlife and amazing culture in Costa Rica. But what does a day look like on the road with the Rise Up familia? Holly joined us as a guest on one of our epic Costa Rica surf and yoga retreats. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect from her view.

What does a day consist of on a Rise Up Costa Rica Retreat?
Each day was slightly different and often dependent on the tides—which was great because it kept things very interesting! We’d typically be up quite early, have a light and healthy snack and coffee, and then load into a few trucks for the morning surf session. After a great first session, we’d head back for a yoga class or do video analysis, eat lunch, and then head back out on the water.
Though the days were always a little bit different, we could always count on amazing food, relaxing and restorative yoga and great company—and the weather was perfect too.

What was the highlight of the trip for you?
It’s hard to pick just one thing! I really enjoyed getting to know folks from around the world, including the instructors/staff, who had common interests as me; and there was just the right amount of downtime to hang out with people. My surfing improved a ton over the course of the week, which was wonderful, so the last few days of great surf was definitely a highlight. I also went on the trip with my dad who lives across the country from me, so sharing this experience with him was incredibly special.
Other highlights that come to mind are horseback riding on the beach with a local farmer then eating lunch on the farm with his family, a few epic party waves and the day-trip boat ride, which was perfectly planned near the end of the week when we were all familiar with each other.

Who would you recommend this trip to?
I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to:
- visit an awesome and remote location
- learn or improve their surfing and,
- anyone who wants to learn or improve their yoga.
I was definitely the youngest person on my trip and my dad the oldest, and it was fantastic for both of us. I wouldn’t say it’s exactly a ‘relaxing’ trip since you’re on the move pretty much all the time, but it’s the kind of trip where even when you’re tired at 5 in the morning, you don’t want to miss anything!
