On The Road
If you’ve been following us on social media the last few months, you probably already know that we’ve developed a serious love for southern Costa Rica. After being forced to close the doors to Rise Up Nicaragua earlier in the year, we were offered the opportunity to stay at a friends house in Costa Rica for an extended vacation. As we waited to see how the political situation in Nicaragua would unfold, we discovered a new type of paradise not so different from our own in Aposentillo. We were graced with world-class waves, amazing wildlife and an untouched wilderness. While we were there, we were also lucky enough to discover the most idyllic place to host a retreat on the Osa Peninsula. And now we want to share it with you.
For years now, we have wanted to launch Rise Up On the Road; a series of retreats around the world at our favorite surf spots. Our vision has always been about adventuring further and taking the Rise Up spirit with us so that together, we might experience more. But as there has always been the running of the camp, and then the raising of our daughter Kaya, we’ve always been extra busy. So as we took some time to recalibrate in Costa Rica, we realized that, despite the unfortunate circumstances in Nicaragua, perhaps it was the Universe’s way of telling us that it was time to take a leap of faith and put our plans into action.
So although we WILL be opening the doors to Rise Up in Nicaragua this coming November, we are also going to be hosting retreats on the road. And first on the list, of course, is our beloved Costa Rica.
Rise Up Costa Rica
Often we hear from guests that they prefer Nicaragua to Costa Rica because, unlike the more developed Costa Rica, Nicaragua still has such an untouched charm. And there are parts of Costa Rica that we have visited and feel the same about, but once we laid eyes on the Southern Pacific coast, we realized that paradise still exists there as well.
Not only is the Osa Peninsula considered to be one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet, but half of it is protected by national park and local and international private reserves. Thanks to aggressive conservation efforts, the forests of the Osa remain home to many endangered species, including Baird’s tapir, the white-lipped peccary, jaguars, crocodiles and the harpy eagle and almost half of Costa Rica’s 860 species of birds (that is almost 5% of the world’s species!), 140 species of mammals, and 117 species of reptiles and amphibians. Almost 750 species of trees have been cataloged in the area, more trees than in all of the North temperate regions of the world combined.
And did we mention the waves? Right outside the door of this incredible retreat, are world class waves for every level of surfer. Combine that with some of Rise Up’s favorite guides, such as Francisco Alarcon and Mattew Boyle, and you’ve got yourself an incredible surf experience.
Spaces are filling up fast, but there’s still time to secure your spot on this adventure of a lifetime. And the best part is, if you book before the end of the month, we’ll give you 10% off the total cost of your stay. So what are you waiting for?
