Rise Up and the Local Communities
The initiatives we support directly benefit the people around us and help create a better tomorrow for everyone. Through our decisions, we here at Rise Up surf retreats hope to inspire others to take action in preserving our oceans, protecting the environment and giving back to the communities that give us so much.
Rise Up Kids
Our NGO, Rise Up Kids, was established with a singular mission: to improve and enrich the lives of children in our community in Nicaragua.
Rise Up has made significant contributions, such as assisting with medical bills and providing clothing and essential supplies. However, we believe that true transformation begins with education. Our flagship project focuses on renovating and restoring the local primary school in Asseradores, Northern Nicaragua.
Our aim is to equip the school with new supplies and foster a safer, cleaner environment that’s more conducive to learning.
Surf Club
Surfing is a major attraction for tourism in this region of Nicaragua, yet many locals lack basic swimming skills, let alone the ability to surf. Rise Up surf retreats aim to change that.
Our surf club is dedicated to teaching community members—who might not otherwise have access to surfboards—how to ride the waves by giving them confidence both in and out of the water.
Surfing has brought immense joy to our lives, and we’re eager to share that joy with our local community. Our Rise Up surf coaches volunteer a few hours each week to take club members into the water where they can experience the thrill of catching waves.
Honestly, it’s been incredible to witness the transformation of individuals who were once hesitant to swim now confidently riding waves on their own. We especially take pride in seeing the women in our community embrace the water and fully engage in this empowering experience.
Tides of Tomorrow
As surfers and retreat hosts, we’re acutely aware of what the ocean gives us in terms of beauty, recreation and solace.
However, it’s no secret that our oceans are in danger and we all must take action to protect them for future generations. Tides of Tomorrow is Rise Up surf retreats’ sustainability policy, and it involves active participation in eco-friendly activities such as sea turtle conservation, beach clean-ups and community education on ocean conservation.
Rise Up surf retreats is also a proud partner of My Climate – a program that makes it possible to offset the carbon emissions of your flights. The money redirected from this program is put into local projects here in Nicaragua, which then directly benefits the community and region we call home.
