That means December through April. Waves on the Pacific side are smaller, more forgiving and absolutely perfect for surf lessons. Places like Playa Tamarindo, Playa Guiones and Playa Grande on the northern Pacific coast are famous for their sandy bottoms and friendly beach breaks.

Early learners

So you can pop up and ride down the line, but you’re not quite ready for anything too gnarly? May and June are your sweet spot.
